“No one learns as much about a subject as one who is forced to teach it.”
― Peter Drucker
“Bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind.”
― Plato, The Republic
The inkling that I would be a good teacher formed in my senior year of high school, that wonderful year when all the world seems laid out in front of you, all the twisting paths still hidden from you. I truly fell in love with teaching in the two years after high school, as I was serving a church mission in the UK. I came back, went to school, and earned my BA in English Education. It had to be English, of course. Then, there were the three glorious and hideous years struggling in a public education system that is not designed to help and inspire the students it ought to be serving. Now, I tutor and teach classes of students who are with me simply because they love learning and are as excited as I am about the subjects we learn about together.
